INSTRUMENT GUIDE

Play a virtual darbuka and learn its core sounds

The darbuka creates a complete rhythmic vocabulary from contrasting low, open, sharp, and muted strokes. Fiiz places those sound roles on colorful pads so you can practice patterns with touch, keyboard, or MIDI.

Basic darbuka sounds

Doum

A deep, open bass tone produced near the center of the drum. It often marks the foundation or the beginning of a phrase.

Tek and ka

Sharper edge sounds that create detail and motion. Players often use alternating hands, with naming conventions varying by technique and teaching tradition.

Slap and roll

A slap adds a bright accent. Rolls connect strokes into flowing ornaments and should support the pulse rather than hide it.

Practice on Fiiz

Open the full Studio, choose the Darbuka sound pack, and begin with four pads. Keep the rhythm slow, make the low and high sounds clearly different, then add accents. The pad order can be changed, and your own audio can be loaded locally when you want a personal setup.

Start with a clean contrast between bass and edge tones. Speed becomes useful only after every stroke has a clear role.
