METER GUIDE · 4/4

Four steady beats, countless grooves

4/4 is a practical starting point for pop, rock, acoustic, disco, and electronic music. Count four equal beats, keep the pulse steady, and let the backing rhythm carry the time.

How 4/4 works

A bar contains four quarter-note beats. The first beat usually feels strongest, while beats two and four often carry the backbeat. The subdivisions between them make room for hi-hats, shakers, ghost notes, and syncopation.

Practice method

  1. Begin near 70–80 BPM and count “one, two, three, four.”
  2. Tap your foot on every number.
  3. Play a short phrase without changing the pulse.
  4. Raise the BPM in small steps only when the groove stays relaxed.

Try different feels

The meter remains 4/4 even when the character changes. A disco groove places a strong pulse on every beat, house music keeps a steady kick, and acoustic patterns often leave more space. Open the Fiiz Studio to switch between these ready-made sets and edit every hit.
